Meet the Tadpoles!

As I talked about yesterday, we have a special item that we often carry in the back of our Toad, actually two items...the Tadpoles!

Not real tadpoles...

...these are our Tadpoles!

They are two 2005 Honda Metropolitan II 50 cc motor scooters.  Here in Virginia, they don't have to be licensed, but we'll license them when we go full time, because state laws vary and I hate having to interact with police if I don't have to...;c)

The scooters don't go too fast, I think I saw 30 mph once with a tailwind going down hill.  We still wear helmets, don't need to scramble our brains any more than they already are!

The seats lift up to provide a nice large storage compartment, it'll easily carry a gallon of milk plus other small items.

They even put a hook to hang your purse (Marti's purse) or a plastic bag of groceries.

The gas tank holds about a gallon of fuel and you can travel well over 100 miles on that.  Now if  our motorhome would get some mpg like that, I'd be in heaven!  We've only filled the tanks several times since we've owned them.

During some of our travels, we rented scooters, we rode them in Lake Tahoe and Key West and had a ball.  Of course, being rentals, they were pretty beat up, being held together with bailing wire and lots of duct tape.  We decided to stop taking our lives in our hands and bought our own.

We've ridden then all over, even in the desert at Quartzsite.  It was nice to zip by all the traffic during the Big Tent show.  We still have some Quartzsite dust on them, it is quite clingy.

We remove the rear seat in the Element and both Tadpoles fit right in.  I tie them down with motorcycle straps to some hooks in the floor.  Lots of fun!

So if we have a Toad, the Toad has Tadpoles...get it?  Okay I know Tadpoles come from Frogs, but work with me here!  :c)
