Marti's Musings: My Achy-Breaky Heart

So, we had the heart break of - yet again - saying good bye to the kids/grandkids.  (does it get any sadder than when a grandchild get sad, and sighs saying:  "I'm gonna miss you - when are you coming back?")  We drove past the campground less than 2 miles from their house, that will allow us to easily visit/be nearby for extended periods of time.  These 1000 mile weekend trips are not getting any easier!.  (emotionally or physically)  We enjoyed the trip home, I must admit, chatting and planning about the days we can travel 100-200 miles a day, and actually ENJOY the travelling!

Tonight we had our realtor/friends stop by to do a preliminary walk through, get their feedback and their suggestions.  Wow - yeah, you  full-timers have told us to weed out, get rid of etc.  My daughter, who sold her house in less than 30 days this year, said the same thing. But the heart break begins as we get-rid-of-everything phase, in preparation for full timing.  Basically to sell the house, all walls have to be bare, and white. Wow!  That is a heart break, as we will be living here for the next year - yes weeding out, emptying out, and neutralizing e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g.

Wow.  And thus it begins....  trying to look ahead - it seems so far away, yet there is so much to do!  Yikes!

  1. Yard sales, craigslist, and you know the last month or so will still be a rush of clearing out everything. We're doing a yard sale Saturday. The house goes on the market next spring. We've got to believe it's all worth it.

  2. I know how your feel - saying goodbye to the grandkids is definitely one of the most difficult things about fulltiming.

  3. I keep trying to remember it is all part of the journey and "the journey" is what it is all about.

We have moved 16 times, but this one seems to be the most difficult, because we want it the most! It will all fall into place when the time is right.

Perhaps we will all be "Homeless" by the time we meet at the rally!!

  4. We can empathize with you. Our house is on the market and we were blown away by the initial visit of the realtor. Emptying out has been hard on me - the emotional attachment and memories! Upon selling the piano, the 8 yr old granddaughter said, "Grandma, I'll always remember that you had a piano one time". I try to focus on what's ahead - freedom, but it does come with a cost for me. Best of luck to you!

  5. Even though our road date is several years out, we're trying to downsize now and it's a huge job. We try to divide it up into small projects, because otherwise it's just overwhelming!

  6. You're just doing some normal grieving as you let things go. Love your sadness and keep on packing and sorting! You can do it.

  7. We have 2 years to do this too. Bit by bit, it will all go here too. Some very special things will fit in one steamer trunk that a daughter promised to keep in her guest bedroom at the foot of the bed.

I think the hardest will be the Christmas ornaments, so been giving those to the grown kids each year and now to the grandkids too.
