She had stopped eating last night and turned her nose up at her favorite treat, liverwurst, this morning. We were a bit concerned that her joints were acting up. This afternoon, when I came home, I could see she was really hurting so I rushed her to the vet.
Some X-rays ruled out any skeletel issues and she had pain in her belly when the doctor pressed on it. I knew, deep down inside, it was bad.
Blood tests and then an ultra sound confirmed the bad news, she had cancer in her pancreas, lungs as well as a tumor on the side of her heart. Marti rushed down as soon as she could to be with me at the vet's office. Even though the doctor was very good and very comforting, I had to send Marti home in tears and then sign the required papers.
Zoe turned and looked me in the eyes as the vet led her away, showing her faithful love to the very end.
It was very, very hard. We're watching a recording of the Royal Wedding to get our minds off Zoe.
So sorry for your loss. That last pleading look in your eyes is devastating. :(
ReplyDeleteWe are so, so sorry to hear about Zoe. It's very hard on us humans. When you can tell that your furkid is in such pain and with that diagnosis, well...we're sorry for your loss.

So sorry to hear about Zoe. Losing a family member is never easy, but hopefully you'll find some peace in knowing that she is now out of pain. My thoughts are with you.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear of your loss. It has been a tough week in blogland for pets. This is the 4th dog lost in the last week that I know of.
ReplyDeleteI am beginning to look at the our guest dog with trepidation. :(
That last look is oh so haunting. I am so sorry for your loss. Poor baby has been sick for a while but they're such troopers the way they keep on living as fully as possible until they can no longer. Be gentle with yourselves. And stay alert for a visit from spirit Zoe just letting you know all is okay.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a shock! I am so sorry for you both. It really has been a bad week.
ReplyDeleteDear Paul and Marty,
ReplyDeleteI'm so sad over your loss of Zoe whom I just finally met. I know how very hard it is to lose such a loyal and loving friend. I had the experience when my two beagles died and it is one of the reasons we travel petless for now. The loss of Zoe brings tears to my eyes. My heart goes out to you both.
Sherry
So very, very sorry to hear the news about Zoe. My heart goes out to you two....
ReplyDeleteHow awful, my heart goes out to you yet again. Loosing a pet is heart wrenching.
ReplyDeleteI was so busy with our royal wedding that I missed this post. I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your special friend. I know how much you must be hurting. Zoe looked just like my grand-dog who passed away a few months ago. Dogs are truly one of God's greatest gifts. I know Zoe was very precious to you and will be missed.
