How'd I Turn Into Such A Wuss?

The bed felt so good this morning, the electric blanket we use made it so warm and toasty.  Outside, it was pouring rain and the wind was blowing hard.  We were supposed to pull out if the Astoria KOA and start our trek South.

Or not.

Instead, when I did finally get up, I hopped in the Element and ran up to the KOA office to renew for one more night.  For the $20/night special, it was worth it.  Best of all, I got to stay dry.  Not fun unhooking with rain running down your neck into your socks.  I used to go out in weather like this all the time during my career, but now I'm retired and I can pick when and where I want to get my socks soggy.

So, today, being my bonnie bride, Marti's 29th birthday, I took her out sight seeing along the shore in the town of Seaside, OR.  We enjoyed looking at the waves crashing in from the ocean (through the windshield of the car), then looked for a nice place for lunch.  Not finding a nice place, we then looked for a mediocre place for lunch and succeeded.  No surprise, the food was also mediocre.  They sure do roll up the sidewalks around here in winter.

But all was not lost.  We did find a nail salon where Marti was able to get a manicure.  Then on to the old movie theater where we did a "Two-Fer", watched "The Adventures of Tin Tin" which was pretty good but the graphics were amazing, then "Mission Impossible, Ghost Protocol" which was excellent.

After the movies, we went in search of a nice place for supper and struck out again.  After two movies each with a large bag of popcorn, we decided to head back to the Journey and snack on a left over or two.

Such is the life of full time RVing.  Some days are a blast, other days are far from the cutting edge of excitement.  But it's all good and we're loving every minute of it.

Tomorrow, we hit the road for sure.  I promise.  Unless the wind is blowing and it's raining hard.  After all, I am a wuss...

Thanks for visiting and feel free to leave a comment.

  6. Well, you earned the right to be a wuss and seemed to have finally realized what RETIREMENT is all about;o)) Nice to see you two slowing down and enjoying things!!

Happy Birthday Marti!! We flew through Seaside Oregon on our first whirlwind fulltime adventure! I believe it was in the summer and there was a big kite competition going on. Pretty town when the sidewalks are rolled out;o))

  7. Happy birthday Marti! Sounds like Oregon is a bit wet..but that's no surprise. I think I was in Seaside in high school. Oregon has beautiful scenery through the rain drops :)

  11. We too are wusses and proud of it, though we are not retired we are still full-timers and love how plans can and will change in a moment.

We have both the cover and the undercover heated on our bed...keeps us toasty warm in all sorts of weather.

    Happy Birthday Marti!

  15. I am thinking that waiting for the rain to stop in Oregon in the winter may be a long wait. But enjoy the time spent in that foggy cocoon.

  16. I think it was over a year before I used the windshield wipers on the motorhome. We never voluntarily drive in bad weather. It is one of the great parts of the adventure.

    Happy 29th to Marti!

  17. I'm new to your blog. I just followed a link from "Direction of Our Dreams" blog. I like your comment about being a wuss. It all comes down to perspective. I was rabbit hunting one winter and struggling through waist high snow. I turned to my friend and said, "If I had to 'work' in conditions like this, I'd quit!"
Now that I'm retired, the list of 'have to' items is MUCH smaller.

  18. Happy Birthday Marti!

You're both retired now. Never, intentionally, drive in bad weather. It's just not necessary :)

I am GREEN with envy at your retirement life----

  21. Happy Birthday, Marti! I knew I liked you - a fellow Capricornian! Ron found a good bakery in Seaside! Of course that was before the sidewalks were rolled up.
