After living right on the beach for eleven years during my Coast Guard career, we were pretty tired of sand, waves and the ocean.
Or so we thought.
We lived in a more traditional home for the last fourteen years in a “normal” neighborhood before we hit the road. As fulltimers, we have enjoyed the desert, the mountains and even the fruited plains. Through all our travels, we’ve stayed pretty much away from the ocean. It was a case of “Been there, done that”.
Or so we thought.
Today, we ventured down to the beach here in Destin, Florida. Not just any beach, but one that Dee, from Tumbleweed had told us about. It is a private beach, open to just military folks.
We poked out nose in, it was terribly crowded.
Yeah, white, sandy beach sand, crystal clear warm water, all under sunny blue skies, we were tired of the beach.
Or so we thought.
We stuck our toes in the water.
Hmm, maybe we were not as tired of the beach as we thought. We went back to our motorhome, grabbed our beach stuff and booked right back to the white sand and set up.
We spent several wonderful hours soaking in the ocean, baking in the sun, reading and snacking. Enjoying every second. We enjoyed it so much, we’re going to do it again tomorrow. As we were floating around in the warm, soft waves, we realized once again that everything we went through to hit the road and travel full time was worth it. :c)
Tonight, we had another special time with new RV friends and our “twins”, Rob and Donna, owners of the twin to our Journey. We had a wonderful dinner at McGuire’s Irish Pub and celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary. It was so much fun, sharing our experiences and RV lifestyle as well as our military careers.
(The lighting in the pub made my pictures look red, there is nothing wrong with your computer!)
We were enjoying a great dessert to top off a wonderful meal.
A Million Dollar Day. We’re so thankful to have the chance to travel and meet great people.
Thanks for visiting and feel free to leave a comment.
Isn't this lifestyle grand!? Meeting the nicest people is the icing on the cake :)
ReplyDeleteYes, that sounds like a wonderful day. I can't wait till my husband retires then we can do the same.
ReplyDeleteRight on the beach for 11 years - you could never have gotten me to leave there. Your day looks right down my alley but you military folks sure are stingy with your beautiful beaches. I would have enlisted long ago if I'd known about this. :-))
ReplyDeleteI loved being in the mountains this summer, but will always be a beach-side girl at heart. Having grown up and lived on eastern Long Island all my life until we left on this incredible journey, I will always feel at home by the ocean. And the good news is, in an RV, sometimes I can even have ocean front property :-).
ReplyDeleteMy kind of place...beach! Love how crowded it was :)
ReplyDeletea day at the beach, dinner with friends and another day at the beach tomorrow..can I say I 'hate' you right now?.. :)
ReplyDeleteWow -- 48 years! Congrats to Rob and Donna!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely jealous of your private beach!
Not sure about a million, but sure likes a great day!
ReplyDeleteNot sure how you found a place to plunk down your umbrella and chairs on that crowded beach :-))
ReplyDeleteP&M
ReplyDeleteMary and I just got back from Gulf SHores, AL. Same crowded beach and powder type white sands. We played in the Gulf for hours like two little kids.
Great shots, good on you both for getting some quiet beach time.
I dreaming of the beach...can't wait till I see the ocean again. It has been too long for me. Love the Destin area!
ReplyDeleteThat definitely was a million dollar day! How could you ever think you were tired of the sand, the ocean and the waves?
ReplyDeleteNow that's one heck of a beach!
ReplyDeleteThe beach looks great and as much as we love our mountains a little sand and surf is never a bad thing.
ReplyDeleteThe Destin Rec Park is a great place to explore from. Swing by the Air Force Armament Museum just outside the Eglin Main Gate.
ReplyDeleteLove the beaches of FL panhandle to Gulf Shores, AL. There are no other beaches so nice. Glad you enjoyed them.
ReplyDeleteYep, you are enjoying this great lifestyle!!! Hope to see you two at the BEACH in a couple weeks;o)))
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Beach!
ReplyDeleteYou carry around a beach umbrella in your RV?!?
