Heading to Disney World and We Pick Up a Hitchhiker

We got outta' Dodge Friday night at 6:30 PM.  That was nothing short of a miracle.  Usually Fridays at quitting time for Marti is when all the problems start.  Or something like all-you-know-what breaks out.

We drove out of Virgina and stopped just across the VA/NC border at a Walmart, where we joined a bunch of other RV overnighters.

This morning at the crack of 7:30 AM, we pulled back out on the road and headed down to Heather and Brian's house, to drop off a load of precious family photographs for storage in their house.  We arrived at 1:00 PM and Andrew and Owen rushed out to great us when we pulled in front of their house.  They tripped over each other in their rush to hug Mimi (Marti).

We had a great visit.  The boys were fascinated by Marti's boot cast, Andrew just had to try it out for himself.

We took the gang out to the boy's favorite restaurant, the Yamato Japanese Steak House in Irmo, SC.  The chef was a riot, but he almost lost his eyebrows.

We had a great meal and took a pile of leftovers back to the Journey.  We needed to head on down the road, it's about an 8 hour drive from Irmo to Disney World and we're checking in to Fort Wilderness on Sunday.

Our plans were to drop the pictures at Heather and Brian's house and then head to Disney and get set up.  Heather, Brian and the boys would leave their house on Tuesday and meet up with us for the rest of the week.  As usual, our plans are "Semper Gumby" (Always Flexible).  Seems that little Owen was devastated that his Mimi was leaving and he wasn't going to see her until Tuesday.  He was inconsolable.  So with his Mom and Dad's blessing, we picked him up and took him along with us.

I'm not sure who is happier, but Owen is a joy to have along.  And for big brother Andrew, staying behind, well he and his Dad are going golfing together tomorrow, some Father and Son special time.

Tonight we're overnighting at a Super Walmart in Waltersboro, SC with a (flock, herd, school, pod, gaggle) of other RVs.  Sure is wonderful that Walmart extends such hospitality to RVers.

Today we drove 409 miles, we're about 350 miles from Fort Wilderness.  We should arrive in the early afternoon and I have a great little guy to help me set up.  Stay tuned.

  5. I'll bet that NC WalMart was in Roanoke Rapids which is our childhood hometown. Mom still lives there. It's always full of overnight RVs. Looking forward to Disney and Fort Wilderness!

  10. SUCH a cute post! Love your hitchhiker. I can't believe the boys' favorite restaurant is a Japanese Steakhouse - they are quite the connoisseurs!
