They are located by major military hospitals or veterans hospitals. When a wounded serviceman or servicewoman has been injured in combat operations and is facing a long rehabilitation to be restored to health, often these hospitals are far from the servicemember's home. Fisher Houses are for the servicemember's family to come as stay next to their loved one while they recuperate, at no cost to the family.
It has been found that the wounded servicemember's recovery is helped and sped up by having family close by. It is a wonderful thing for a sad time. Our servicemembers and their families have sacrificed tremendously to keep our country strong and free. Fisher Houses help to repay in a small way the tremendous debt we owe our wounded warriors.
Thanks for visiting and feel free to leave a comment.
Yes, we do owe our wounded warriors a tremendous debt. I'm glad there is a place for families to stay at no charge when needed.
ReplyDeleteThats good. Not enough is done for those that serve our country.
ReplyDeleteThanks for telling us about the Fisher Houses, I've never heard about them. It is the least we can do for our wounded warriors. They deserve all the love and support that we can give them and their families.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know about this. Seems the least we can do is to take care of their health needs and enable their families to be close to them.
ReplyDeleteSure wish other hospitals had such set ups for those who are extremely ill and have major medical expenses so their families could afford to be near them.
Thank goodness there are places like this. Wounded soldiers need all the support and help they can. I'm glad there are places such as this.
ReplyDeleteI understand we have mor wounded from our recent conflicts because they have gotten better at saving lives. It is a sad reason, but I'm glad for every one that comes home alive.
ReplyDeleteHadn't heard about Fisher Houses ... it's the least we can do for those who are facing long periods of rehab.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to know these facilities exist.
ReplyDeleteThanks for mentioning the importance of family support in the recovery of injured soldiers. My nephew was injured a few years ago in Iraq and has made a remarkable recovery. He has a blog (greenberetskills.com) that he uses to tell his inspirational story. If anyone is interested, check it out. He starts covering the injury around 01/25/2012 with a port-a-john series. Very inspirational indeed.
