Caught In A Wedding Party

New Orleans is an amazing place, you never know what might be around the next corner.  We’ve been surprised with everything we’ve found so far.  I got lots of brownie points with Marti for taking her to some of the shops just off Jackson Square.

They have all kinds of funny and eclectic items on display for sale, everything from gator heads in all sizes, multi colored bead necklaces,  to brightly dressed Voodoo dolls.

Even beautiful party masks,

made in China, of course!

I got the “Two Thumbs Up” approval from Marti for bringing her here for some “Retail Therapy”.

We decided to splurge a little and took a carriage ride tour, it was interesting, among the many historic sites, we saw the house owned by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, as well as the house that Nicholas Cage owned before it was repossessed.  I guess even big Hollywood stars are feeling the recession.

There are all kinds of culinary delights to be tasted.  Some looked interesting, but we passed on them.

They say that gator tastes just like rattlesnake, which tastes like rabbit which tastes like chicken.  I think I’ll just stick to chicken in the first place.

We did not pass up on this famous New Orleans delight: Beignets at Café Du Monde!

At Jackson Square, we heard what we thought was some kind of musical parade coming down the street, so we walked over to take a closer look.  It was a parade, but not just any parade.  It was a wedding party, complete not only with the bride and groom, but musicians, dancers and the whole wedding attendees.  In no time, we were surrounded by all the revelry.

From the way the groom was dancing, I’d guess he would be so tired after the parade that the bride would be carrying him over the threshold!

After dancing in front of the square for about 15 minutes, the whole wedding parade moved on down the street, dancing along to the music of When the Saints Go Marching In.

We’ve had a ball, and that was only our first day!   No telling what we’ll find on Day Two.  We thinking we made the right choice to head to New Orleans instead of the Unclaimed Baggage Center.  What fun would it be to look at racks of old blue jeans when you can come to where there are real Blues?

Thanks for visiting and feel free to leave a comment.

  1. You didn't miss anything - we tasted gator in Australia several years ago and it was like gnawing on old rubbery gum. It was tough and definitely didn't taste like chicken. I always wondered though.

  5. Since Marti can't do seafood, I thought sure she would try some alligator. :)

  6. Marti finally got to ride in a vehicle that didn't travel 300 miles a day. Looks like you guys are having a fun time.

  10. Unless you were on your way to look for my lost baggage, you made a much better choice by going to New Orleans. I don't think I'd be interested in ordering off that Bayou Swamp Food menu.

  11. I've never been to NOLA but Russ has. I'd like to go just to enjoy the music and beignets. How fun to have a wedding party dancing down the street. They sure do know how to celebrate.

  12. Love New Orleans. Try "Mothers" or the Acme Oyster Bar for a great PO Boy.

  13. How cool is that--a wedding parade! We loved New Orleans--I had been many times but it was a first for Michael--the "cowboy" complete with hat drew lots of attention as he strolled around gawking at all the sights!

  15. Oooo, a carriage ride. How fun. Love the wedding parade. What a great way to celebrate the day. Funny about singing When the Saints Go Marching In. I thought they sang that for funeral parades.

  17. Wow, I am so glad that everything was so fun and enjoyable. I also have to find the best NYC wedding venues within our budget. Actually we want a DIY ceremony as we have low budget and finding a right spot is a big challenge for us. Could you help regarding it?
