Catching Our Breath

Or trying to.

We had a successful launch Sunday afternoon, the Journey’s wheels actually still rolled.  After sitting still for a couple of months, I always worry that something will go wrong and thwart all our plans.

But the generator started fine, the slides came in smoothly, the  CAT diesel roared to life and we moved out perfectly.  The only blip was that passenger side slide leak, with all the rain from the Tropical Storm, some water got on  top of the slide.  When the slide came in, some water came in with it and dripped on the carpet, getting it wet.  That moved finding the leak and fixing it up to the top of my to-do list.

We drove the 160 miles to Myrtle Beach and settled in to a large site at the PirateLand Campground.  Now this is not a Judy or Sherry approved type of park, they have RV crammed in all over the place.  You have to be careful walking the streets so that you don’t get run over by some ten year old kid speeding along in a golf cart.

However, with our grandsons Andrew (aka Dyson) and Owie (aka Hoover), it’s a great place to have fun.  We are about two football fields length away from an awesome beach and the campground also has a great pool, a really nice lazy river as well as miniature golf, pizza…and ice cream.  What’s not to love?

So while Marti is in her classes from 7:30 am to 1 pm, I’ve been hanging with the boys, more like hanging on to the boys as we’ve been jumping from activity to activity.  Marti gets home about 1:30 and joins into the fun.

So we’re trying to catch our breath as we try to keep up with the boys.  It’s been a blast already and we have until next Sunday to keep having fun.

While at the pool, I’ve discovered an important observation:  Just because a person can fit into a bikini, it doesn’t mean that the person should wear one!  :cO

Pictures coming when I get to stop running… ;c)

Thanks for visiting and feel free to leave a comment.

  1. Sounds like just the right spot for a couple of energetic boys. You two are THE BEST grandparents. I know those boys must wear you out but think of the wonderful rest you are giving their parents. Heros on every front, that's what you are. Keep on having fun! That's what it's all about!!

  2. Definitely not a campground for the faint of heart - but with grandkids - absolutely perfect. Hope you survive the week - try to pace yourself a little bit.

  3. We saw that campground when we were in MB. It is crazy packed with all kinds of RVrs :) Not for us, but a great place for children of all ages!

  4. Never give up the time with the grands. My grandkids are all older now and we're finding the time we get to spend with them grows scarcer by the year. But they (and we) have such wonderful memories of fun times together over the years. They still want to come to Grandma's whenever they can. One granddaughter called our house her "refuge." Those things money cannot buy. I think you will have similar wonderful times and memories with your grands. Enjoy.

  5. I never figured you for the bikini wearing type, but I guess being stuck in one place for too long does funny things to your psychy.

  6. I've noticed that bikini thing at the Sands RV Resort in Palm Springs too - sometimes less should be more, a lot more!!

Now that you've finally got those big wheels rolling, try not to get rundown by a kid on a golf cart! We know you don't see too well, right?

  8. Know you are having a blast!! Somehow, everytime you come to Pirateland it is at exactly the time we are leaving the Myrtle Beach area. Just traveled to Raleigh today!! We are beginning to think you have some inside information;o)) Enjoy the boys and keep making memories!!!

  9. Ha Ha JB! You beat me to it. By Sunday, I expect you won't have any breath left! Wonder how a bikini would look with steel-toed boots??? EEK! I'm thinking the ticks and mosquitoes would have a hay day!

  10. We were warned about those golf carts! Until you get that eye surgery you should be extra careful:) Feel free to skip that bikini picture!

  11. Sounds like that park has everything you could possibly want except a hot tub. Have a great time!

  12. Never been to Pirateland, but stayed at Ocean Lakes many times. Same there with the golf carts. Usually afraid to walk the dogs (back when we had them) at night.
    Be careful out there!

  13. Non stop activities s what the kids need, enjoy your time with them, then relax....

  14. Enjoy that lazy river with the boys. I love just floating in a tube.

  15. Speedos look terrible on men past the age of 10. However, being so close to the beach does have its advantages. Less exercise walking the distance to the water for sure.

  16. I always said that if you wanted to improve your self esteem/body image, go to the beach. You'll always find many people there who shouldn't be...or at least shouldn't be wearing what they are wearing :)
Whoever invented bikinis and Speedos should be forced to look at them on inappropriate body types forever!

  17. Priorities for what you're looking for in a campground shift when you're traveling with the little guys. Glad you're having fun. We've noticed the bikini thing, too. Worse, we've seen it on clothing optional beaches in the Caribbean ... I guess these people don't look in the mirror :-o

  18. Glad to see everything still worked and you got to leave. Sometimes we like campgrounds just because of the location....like in the Keys and the campground isn't all that important.

  19. With all that running around, you're going to turn into just a shadow of yourself.
