One Eyed Jack

Just a fast post.  It was too good to be true, returning from the Carolina Clan gathering, the Journey was running beautifully. Murphy was at bay, finally.  Then I got a return phone call from the VA to answer a query I had made last Friday concerning some new issues I noticed in my eye, the one I had cataract surgery last June.

I was told I had a possible emergency situation and to come in right away.  Fortunately the VA hospital was right on the route we were taking back to Strom Thurmond Lake.  Even more fortuitous was that Shaw AFB FamCamp was also right along the way.

We got a campsite, dropped the Journey and made it to the VA just before noon.

The result:  I had a serious tear in my retina, a complication that sometimes happens from cataract surgery.  I ended up in emergency laser surgery to attempt to repair the tear.  If that didn’t hold, then more invasive surgery would be necessary.

Today we went back in for a follow up and so far, so good.  I have another follow up on Thursday and more will follow after that.  The ophthalmologist said that we won’t positively know if the laser has worked for about a week.

We plan on remaining at Shaw AFB until Friday, unless we get a bad report on Thursday.  If all goes well, we will return to Thurmond Lake on Friday.

I’m on light duty, I’m not to do anything strenuous, n running, jumping, dancing (like that would happen) or reading for a few days (Oops!)

So if you don’t see any new posts from me or comments on your blogs, that’s what’s going on.  Murphy got me instead of the Journey.  :c(

  8. Thank goodness you were close, you got the call and you got that taken care of. It's always nice when Murphy is out bugging someone else and not trying to cause havoc in our lives.

  9. I've heard of this kind of thing happening. Just trying to think of who it was who told me. Not here in Blog Land. I think there was breakfast involved.
Anyway, no sit-ups either. That would be bad. Hope the repair sticks.
I'm tellin' ya, between you and that RV, there seems to be "always somethin' " that needs to be fixed.

  13. Sure hope it gets fixed soon. What is it about eye surgery? We (or at least I) think it should all go smooth and we should have instant, (wonderful) recovery. Last month I had a stitch tear loose from cataract surgery I had 2 years ago (!) and needed a repair job. Yowsie! BestWishes that all is well soon!

  14. Wow! At least you were close enough to get the care you needed without having to travel to far. Hope it holds this time and no other steps will be necessary. While you're in recovery you get to revert back to your supervisory role. :)

  15. Best wishes for a speedy recovery. What a shame that you won't be able to hunt for those pins (or what ever you called them) for a while. ;)
