Unexpected Consequences

You remember your physics class, don't you?  You learned one of the laws of physics:  "For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction?"  I actually learned that not in physics class, but driving a home built wooden go-cart I built down a hill when I was about 10 years old.  Yep, I ran into a rock wall at the bottom of the hill (Brakes?  I don't need no stinkin' brakes!).

Seems that the momentum I built up kept me going into a patch of weeds when the go-cart came to a sudden stop.  :cO  As you figured out by now, I survived, none the worse for wear (except maybe my brain got scrambled, producing my warped sense of humor), the go-cart?  Well it was back to the drawing board and the next one had brakes.  My dad still marvels that I survived childhood.

Looking forward (actually drooling over it) our chance to go fulltime in an RV, my dreams were about traveling to exotic locations across America, seeing the finest sights, the greatest historical places and enjoying exquisite meals at eateries that the average person would never see in their entire lifetime.

Those travel dreams are starting to come true.  Since we started fulltiming last December, we've driven across the United States from Virginia to Oregon, down the west coast to San Diego, then eastwards, through Arizona and currently stopping in San Antonio, Texas.  We've seen some neat things, met some great folks and yes chowed down on some great (and not so great) food.

The unexpected consequence of living the fulltime life is not having any crushing need to do most anything.  We like making list of things we should be doing, but with all the time in the world, there is always tomorrow.  Why wash the Journey today when I can do it tomorrow?  Laundry?  I still have a clean pair of skivvies, so why put a load of dirty clothes in the washer?  Food shopping?  Tomorrow, we still have peanut butter, jelly and a couple of slices of almost stale bread left.

It seems that nothing has to get done until there is an almost desperate need to do so.  Tomorrow is becoming my new mantra.  After years of having to get things done on or before impossible deadlines, I'm really enjoying the kicked back life.  An unexpected consequence of fulltiming.  One I'm really learning to enjoy!

  1. You are all most there on this full time thing. List of things to do? Washing the motorhome? Almost there, but not quite:)

  2. Where ever did you get the picture of those full timer feet? Brown legs, white feet.

My tomorrow is actually never. I never really want to do any of those things you mentioned. I'm always too busy doing what I do want to do today.

  3. It takes a bit of practice and if you don't get it right today there is always tomorrow.

  4. You don't have to put washing the motorhome off to tomorrow. Just have someone else do it!! Blue Beacon washes motorhomes and so do a lot of little independent people known to RV parks.

  9. Your post today reminded me of a quotation I saw a few days ago:

This I know.... I want to live, not just survive civilization.

Maybe that's part of what retirement is all about?

  11. I hope you don't get too into the fulltime style. I seem to remember that you told me once (before December) that you would wash and wax my rig if our paths ever crossed. Now I'm getting worried! :)
