Rolling On the Road Again, or Not.

As much as we'd love to be rolling in the Odessey, alas, it wasn't to be.  Sadly, we had to settle for this mode of travel.

We flew to Vancouver, BC and boarded the Discovery Princess for a 7-day cruise to Alaska, followed by another 3 days travel via train and bus through so of the most amazing scenery we've ever been privileged to enjoy.

On board the ship we stopped at some really enjoyable towns and cities, we got quite a kick out of Ketchikan.

Its history was interesting, how many of the buildings had a past history of houses of ill repute, now repurposed into shops selling all kinds of souvenirs to tourists like us, some even actually made in Alaska sitting on shelves next to items made in China.  T-shirts, sweatshirts lined many racks, all emblazoned with Alaska pictures and lettering.

The salmon were running and so were the seals munching on mouthful after mouthful.

Well, there really was a hungry seal in this picture, unfortunately the camera didn't catch it.  The stream bottom was littered with dead fish that had spawned and then died giving lots of food for gulls to chow down on.

Glacier Bay was beyond words to describe its beauty.  The bay's air was freezing and humbling with its size compared to cruise ships slowly sailing through it, with majestic mountains surrounding the sea.

We had a balcony on the ship, and we spent hours out on it, bundled up against the cold, but unwilling to go inside, not wanting to miss a single view.

We did get rolling on some actual wheels while there, pulled by Alaskan Huskies. Quite an experience.

This trip got us thinking, maybe we should do this with our Odessey next time and see sights that aren't available by cruise ship.  Not only that, but being able to stay in areas longer to see what we want to see when we want.  Time will tell, in the meantime we have another Alaska Cruise book for August 2027.

We are certainly hooked on Alaska.  So much to see any way we can get there!
