The Eyes Have It

Or at least one of mine does…a new lens.

Had my cataract surgery yesterday and as usual with me, nothing ever goes easy.  Along with a delay waiting for the operating room to become available, my procedure that was to take about five to ten minutes lasted one hour and nine minutes.  Evidently the thickness of my cataract was underestimated and it took the ophthalmologist extra time to complete the surgery.

I have to say it was probably the most unpleasant experience I’ve ever been through…ever.  The numbing drops that were used didn’t work very well.  My jaw was quite sore after the surgery from  gritting my teeth.  I went through childbirth three times watching Marti deliver our kids and clenching my jaw then didn’t hurt as much as it did this time.

But it’s all behind me now, so it’s a regimen of eye drops, Tylenol, eye drops and rest for the next few days, then even more eye drops for the next month.

Am I seeing better?  Yes and No.  I now see better with the newly repaired right eye at a distance but not good up close, and the left eye works great up close but not good at a distance.  My current glasses are now obsolete because they seem to make me cross eyed…more so than usual.  The eye doctor said to wait about a month before being fitted with new glasses.  Looks like more toothpaste missing the brush and ending up in the sink. :c(

Because of my cross eyed state, Marti now is EDAIC for me (Eye Drop Administer In Chief), so the drops will actually get where they’re supposed to go.

Despite the cross eyedness I’m dealing with I still could see well enough to post this picture of my BBB (Best Blogging Buddy) Rick and his handsome little grandson, Mason, in case you missed it on his blog.

  1. So sorry it didn't go well. So many people just sail through it but you just have to make it difficult.

  2. There ya go again...first the troublesome colonoscopy and now this....what's next? Needless to say...I am sorry. It happened to my mom and your description fit hers to the tee. BUT the next went off without a hitch.

  3. Good for you that that is over with. Does it mean you'll be rolling those lop-sided tires down the road again soon?

You must be on some calming meds or something. I expected a much tarter remark coming out of Mason's mouth. :)

  4. Oh my and I was so hoping this was going to be a breeze and you'd see better than 20/20. Well now I'm not so sure I want to do this. Guess I'll wait and see how it goes for you. Amazing that they can't tell how thick the thing is. They keep telling me to wait that it's not thick enough yet. Hmmmmmmmmmmm

Great bubble on the picture of Rick.

  5. Well, sorry your eye sight is a bit messed up at the moment, but glad the surgery is over and they didn't mess up your sense of humor;o)) We feel much better knowing Marti is in charge of the Eye Drops!! Do as she says and you two will be on the road before you know it:o))

  6. I guess we'll all have to forgive you if we see any signs of dyslexia in your blog for the next little while. I can't imagine trying to type while cross-eyed.

I'm with Mason! I'm going to try that excuse out here to see how it flies!

Hope your eyes improve over the next little while as I like a fair fight!!

  8. Sorry the surgery didn't go as smoothly as one might hope; heal well.

  9. Dang! I think you guys need to get on the road! All this sitting (grandtreasures, aside) is causing nothing but problems :)

  10. Sure hope the discomfort part of it goes away quickly and that the vision issues are also temporary.

  11. Eeeek! That makes me queasy, thinking about eye surgery coupled with numbing drops that weren't optimal. So sorry but glad it's over (at least for one eye). Hope your vision improves soon.

  12. Hope your recovery goes smoother than the operation!

  13. Sorry your operation went badly. I had both eyes done about 13 years ago and I never even had to take an aspirin. And colors were so much brighter to me.
    Good luck,
    Fred

  14. At least the good thing is that the wait is over for the surgery. Now the wait is of a different nature. It's waiting to heal and get those new glasses so you see where you're driving that Journey.

  15. Good that the surgery is done but too bad not better eyesight.
Hope things improve and you recover quickly.

  16. Sorry things got off to a bumpy start with your surgery. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

  17. Really sorry to hear the surgery didn't go well. Hope your recovery is much easier and the toothpaste soon begins landing on your toothbrush.

  18. I guess Marti will also be doing all the driving until you get new glasses. Having one eye for near and one for far could cause some headaches. Hope it all straightens out.

  19. Well we have two gates at Dogpound South so just head for the middle one and you should be able to get in easy, even cross-eyed.

  20. I guess I'm behind in your blog because I just learned about the surgery. Sorry it was such an ordeal. I wear a contact in one eye for close up and one in the other eye for distance. My eyes seem to compensate quite nicely and I see fine....cross-eyed? maybe, but it works for me. Maybe it will work for you too.
