A Whale Bug

Yesterday we drove 430 miles and ended up right back where we started from.  Let me ‘splain.

Visiting our granddaughters here outside of St. Louis, we always thought it would be nice to take the older two, Taylor and Kierra, to one of our favorite places:  Branson, MO.

Branson has many wonderful shows and we’ve wanted to take them to see two in particular.

Getting down to the plans, we decided to make it a day trip (!).  Never too young to get the girls used to long driving days, we hope to take them on many trips around the country in the future.

We decided it would be best to leave the Journey in the campground and take the car.  That saved us a hefty chunk of change by not having to use a couple hundred bucks of diesel fuel.  To offset the almost three hours driving one way, we brought along our portable DVD player and the girls were happy watching two movies, the last one ending just as we arrived at our first destination: Sight and Sound

We went to see the play about Jonah.

Out front they had the “Whale Bug”.  Imagine the stares they get driving it around Branson!

Suitably armed with chocolate cookies and drinks, the girls were ready for the show.

It was an amazing, first class production.  It was just as good, if not better than any Disney production we’ve seen over the years at Disney World.  Who’d have ever imagined an huge whale swimming over the heads of the audience?  We thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.  No pictures were allowed of the show, but we did snap up a DVD of the show at one of the concession stands inside the theater.

But we weren’t done yet.  A quick dinner and we were off to see show number two, our all time favorite Branson show (which we’ve seen now six times and never tire of it).  The Hughes Brothers.

It has the entire Hughes family performing, the five brothers, their wives and some 36 of their children, singing, dancing, playing instruments and doing all kinds of wonderful, toe tapping music.

We had great seats right up front.

The girls loved the show as much as we did. The best part?  After the show, some of the girls came with one of the moms, sat on the edge of the stage and talked for a while with Taylor and Kierra.  A special end to the show.  :c)

Being it was past 10 pm, the girls slept all the way home and stayed the rest of the night with us in the Journey.  We’re already thinking of a future trip, this time with the Journey and staying a lot longer to see more of the amazing shows in Branson.

And we won’t drive so far in one day!  ;c)

  1. If you're not planning on driving so far in one day does that mean you are trying to kick the PDD.
Glad everyone had a good time. Grandchildren always like things better with their grandparents.

  3. I've been to Sight and Sound in Lancaster, PA. They do such a cool job portraying all of the Bible stories. I hear Noah was not to be missed (which I did!).

  8. 450 miles does not surprise me a bit. What a great treat for the girls and great memories for a lifetime. 5 brothers with 36 kids? That's an average of 7 children per family. Good grief!

  9. What a special day for the girls. So glad they had such a fun time. Boy I would have been falling asleep driving back after the drive there and watching two shows. You are quite the grandparents!

  12. While you are in the Lou, take the girls to the zoo. It is free and it is a terrific zoo. Also a visit to Ted Drew's frozen custard is a must.
