If You Can’t Beat Them, Join Them

There are so many activities on a Disney cruise, your head can spin.  Every night in our stateroom, the attendant placed a paper with a list of all the things available to do the next day.  We’d spend a few minutes looking over the list and plan our day.

The shows were all first rate, typical of Disney, they always exceed your expectations.  What they charge is a bit expensive, but you feel you’ve gotten more than your monies worth when you look back at it.

One night, the ship was taken over by pirates.  Everywhere you looked, you saw pirates, both big and small.  There was even an   amazing pirate show put on at the main deck.

Most of the passengers were dressed up like pirates, too.  Some costumes were simple, others were quite elaborate.  What did we do?  In the Coast Guard, members are good naturedly nicknamed by other military services as Puddle Pirates, meaning we don’t often sail on the deep blue sea (boy are they wrong!).  So dressing up as pirates wasn’t too a great leap for us.

Maybe we can get a part on the next movie in the Pirates of the Caribbean series?

The night ended with a 15 minute fireworks display over the ocean.  Disney really knows how to put on a party.

I am always amazed at the great lengths Disney goes to keep everything picture perfect.  We’ve enjoyed the spic and span parks at Disney World and they carry that same quality to their fleet of cruise ships.  I know from experience how hard it is to keep a ship clean and rust free in a salt water environment.  I looked and looked all over the ship and found only one tiny rust spot smaller than a postage stamp under a rail.

Disney has the maintenance on their ships down to a science.  In every port, while we were off touring and sight seeing, they had crews out scrubbing every corner of the ship, even the hull.

I’m never going to complain again about how big the Journey is to wash!

More to come!  :c)

Thanks for visiting and feel free to leave a comment.

  1. Haven't been on a Disney cruise but have traveled with Norwegian Cruise Line. They too scrub and clean non-stop and ships are sparkling.

  2. Sounds like you had a great time. Any chance you saw Blackbeard there? He was notorious in those seas.

  3. He was slightly before my time, but I hear he was a good friend of yours... :cD

  4. I would have bet that Disney cruises would be top notch just judging from the park. Really looks like fun. You two make as good pirates as David did. A few more and you've got yourself a crew.

  5. You are having too much fun on that cruise.

  6. Leave it to the Coast Guard to inspect the ship maintenance! Scary looking pirates....

  7. The question of the hour, can you get a tour of the bridge since you're Coast Guard?

    1. I never asked, but being an engineer, I would have loved to see the engine room.

  8. Some things are too much fun to only do once! No surprise you've already booked your next one!

  9. Sounds like a fun cruise- you guys make pretty good pirates!

  10. I notice you have your eye patches on different eyes. Is that so, together, you still have depth perception in case you have to walk the plank?

  11. Good job on the pirate costumes. I can just hear your 'Arrg'.
