Social Butterflies

Not only have we been enjoying the many things to do around Key West, we’ve had a bunch of visits with friends and relatives here.

Our niece, Emily, lives in Key Largo and works as a tour guide for an ocean kayaking business.  She is an amazing young lady and quite an adventurer.

She is a certified scuba diver and loves to spend as much time under the waves as she does above them.  She told us recently she was diving and a hammerhead shark swam right over her.  She reached out and touched it as it swam by.

Marti, not to be outdone had to reach out and touch a hammerhead shark, too.  I think she is touching the wrong end…

We went to Mallory Square,

and even had our own tour guide.

Some of Key West’s sights are amazing.

Not just the decorated trucks we’ve seen around town, but the sunsets right in front of our campground take your breath away.

In my quest for the best Key Lime pie, I’ve tried a slice from Publix that so many gave a thumbs up to.

It was okay, but it didn’t have that sharp lime zing to it.  So far, my favorite is from the Key Lime Pie Factory.  But that doesn’t mean I’ve stopped looking (tasting) yet!  :c)

Thanks for visiting and feel free to leave a comment.

  1. We really liked Publix, and miss having our Key Lime Pie while in Utah!

  2. We never even thought of getting a Key Lime Pie at Publix. It did seem though every restaurant we went to needed to be tested. Now we'd better get our exercising in while home so we can continue our research next winter.
Don't let anyone talk you into researching the Cheese Steak Sandwiches or you'll truly have a hard time leaving the Keys.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

  3. I'll never understand why anyone would touch a shark while they're in the water. I just do not have that sense of adventure. I'm sure you have a long way to go to find the perfect key lime pie. Keep up the good work.

  4. You may not have gained any weight on the cruise, but if you test enough key lime pies, I'm thinking you might put on a few pounds. ;)

  5. I'm glad to hear you have taken up the challenge to find the best Key Lime pie in Key West. Not caring much for lime I'd be looking for coconut cream.

  6. Hmm. I think I need to try a slice from the Key Lime Pie Factory. Do you deliver??? :)

  7. Next I bet you're going to tell us you got certified for scuba diving too! I'll be waiting for that.

PS. I'm also jealous that you're in the Keys and we're not.

  8. You guys are having way too much fun! Watch out for those sharks!

  9. We really liked the Kermit’s Key West Key Lime Shoppe pie the best. located at 200 Elizabeth Street. It's all about the tasting journey :) what's better than pie everyday?

    Keep up the hunt!

  10. We hope you don't wear yourself out looking for that pie! I know, I know...somebody has to do it;-)) Is this just another one of those really fun workcamping gigs??!!??!!!!!

  11. 5 words my friend: Conch with sweet chilli sauce. Oddly enough the best key lime I ever had was a food wagon outside CCGD7 back in late 80's. Was also my first experience with cafe cubana - WOW! Yes, color me envious.

  12. We don't eat much desert but did make a Key Lime for aThanksgiving get together with friends when we were in the Keys a few years ago, was very tasty!

  13. Make sure you leave some of that tasting for others who might follow in your footsteps someday ;-)
