Wonderful Machines

Now we’re in the “Get Ready To Roll” mode.  Monday, we pull out of the Naval Weapons Station Earle FamCamp , destination Sioux Falls, SD.  Of course, we’re not going to be as rushed this time as our last December dash to Oregon.  Plus, this me we won’t be worrying about snow storms (we hope!).

I crossed off a few items on my list, including changing the 8KW Onan Quiet Diesel generator oil and filter.  I have a way of doing it on the road with no mush, no fuss.

Just a few simple tools, a ratchet with a 3/8” socket, an oil filter wrench and a funnel.  I bought 3 quarts of Rotella T 15W-40 oil and a new filter.  Also a disposable cooking pan and an empty gallon water jug.

I drained the old oil and filter into the cooking pan, then poured the oil into the gallon jug for recycling.  A quick wipe of the cooking pain and into the recycle bin it went, along with the plastic quart bottles that held the new oil after putting it in the generator.  I drained as much old oil out of the filter, then wrapped it up and put it in the trash.

A test run of the generator for about 15 minutes to ensure there are no leaks and I was done.

One thing I always do is take a careful look under the Journey any time I work on it, just keeping an eye out to ensure everything is ship-shape and ready to roll.  Everything checked out fine, but then it hit me.

These RVs are magnificent machines.  All the intricate parts, the wires, the lines, hoses, engine, transmission, brakes all work together.  Inside, all the comforts of home, beds, furniture, showers, sinks, toilets, TVs, DVRs, radios, surround sound, stoves, air conditioners, heaters lights, etc.  And it all moves down the road to wherever we want to go.

Too often, the little bugs and repairs cloud our views of how wonderful these machines are and how much joy and happiness they bring us.  We are lucky people, fortunate to be part of this RV lifestyle.

Have you hugged your RV today?  ;c)

  6. We hug our Phaeton every day..it has been WONDERFUL to us! knock on wood! It's pretty amazing when you think about all the systems, isn't it? We're heading to Freightliner school May 14 and 15th to learn how to take better care of our rig.

  7. Ahhhh we are loving our RV too! We slept in it last night out in the driveway (to keep the house neat clean and doggie hair free for the second Open House later today) I much rather be in my RV, even if it's in the driveway, than in the house!

When I go in the house, I am tensed up and feeling I have so much to do, clean, fix, repair etc. But when I walk in the motorhome, I am relaxed and comfortable and at ease. Ahhhhhhhh

Sitting in it now, still in our jammies, having coffee and not going into the Big House till noon!

  8. Hugging your RV is OK as long as you clean the dead bugs off first. :)

  11. Great picture of you!! We give Winnona lots of pats and compliments and terms of endearment because she is SO good to us. She's a bit big for hugging. She's even gotten a kiss once. Ssssshh....don't tell her she's a machine. She has no idea. She thinks she's a member of the family and we do too.

  14. Embracing the mobile lifestyle -- that is, by becoming full-time RV travelers -- sounds like a lot of fun. You are very lucky to have the option and opportunity to turn this dream of yours into a reality. If I were to embark on this adventure, I would be very thrilled. Have fun!

  15. Your RV truly deserves a hug. RVs are a good companion and friend, and yes, you are a lucky person to have one of those recreational vehicles. They are truly functional and well-designed, and they provide almost everything we need on a daily basis. Of course, the best part is they allow you remain comfortable wherever you’re going!

  16. I hugged my RV just this morning. Heheh. I really appreciate what it has done for us. It provided shelter when we needed one, transportation when we wanted to have a long road trip, and it brought us to the beach when we longed for a recreational activity. :) So it is only right that we take good care of its parts, especially its engine. We must change its oil every 6 months, or possibly every 3,000 miles of travel.

  17. I agree with you. Little things, like checking the tires, brake, cables and wiring, can keep the RV running in good shape for a long time and spare us from costly repairs.
