Always A New Experience

One thing we really enjoy workamping here at J. Strom Thurmond COE is we never know what we’re going to do next.  Today was a perfect example.

At first, we we going to go pickup an office printer from a nearby Army base, but that fell through.  So we we asked to do a different task, one we’ve never done before.  What was it?

Washing signs.

Actually, it is a necessary task.  The signs get dirty, bird’s poop on them, spiders spin webs on them and moss grows on them.  So we set out with a bunch of rags and some window cleaner supplied by one of the rangers we were helping.

In a short time, we realize that not only didn’t we have enough rags or window cleaner, but many of the signs were quite tall.  We put our heads together and came up with a better idea.  Off we went to the Journey and picked up a few of our things.

One was a broom.  I could clean off loose dirt and debris first before we started scrubbing.

We also grabbed our window squeegee, it has an extendable handle.  A bucket full of soapy water and we became a very efficient team.

In five hours we washed a bunch of signs.  And we were able to reach to the top of all of the higher signs, except one.  That one will require a ladder to get cleaned.  We even pruned some branches away from a few signs that were starting to get overgrown.

On some of the lower signs Marti still used the rags and window cleaner while I covered the taller ones with the squeegee.

There are still a lot of signs left to be cleaned, so it will be a good project for us to work at when there are not other tasks to do.  It was a great day, warm sunshine, fresh air and working with Marti.

We’re liking this workamping lifestyle!  :c)

  12. I see signs in your future. You could clean signs as you make your way across the country in exchange for a free site each night. Have squeegee, will travel :)
