A Million Dollar Day

After living right on the beach for eleven years during my Coast Guard career, we were pretty tired of sand, waves and the ocean.

Or so we thought.

We lived in a more traditional home for the last fourteen years in a “normal” neighborhood before we hit the road.  As fulltimers, we have enjoyed the desert, the mountains and even the fruited plains.  Through all our travels, we’ve stayed pretty much away from the ocean.  It was a case of “Been there, done that”.

Or so we thought.

Today, we ventured down to the beach here in Destin, Florida.  Not just any beach, but one that Dee, from Tumbleweed had told us about.  It is a private beach, open to just military folks.

We poked out nose in, it was terribly crowded.

Yeah, white, sandy beach sand, crystal clear warm water, all under sunny blue skies, we were tired of the beach.

Or so we thought.

We stuck our toes in the water.

Hmm, maybe we were not as tired of the beach as we thought.  We went back to our motorhome, grabbed our beach stuff and booked right back to the white sand and set up.

We spent several wonderful hours soaking in the ocean, baking in the sun, reading and snacking.  Enjoying every second.  We enjoyed it so much, we’re going to do it again tomorrow.  As we were floating around in the warm, soft waves, we realized once again that everything we went through to hit the road and travel full time was worth it. :c)

Tonight, we had another special time with new RV friends and our “twins”, Rob and Donna, owners of the twin to our Journey.  We had a wonderful dinner at McGuire’s Irish Pub and celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary.  It was so much fun, sharing our experiences and RV lifestyle as well as our military careers.

(The lighting in the pub made my pictures look red, there is nothing wrong with your computer!)

We were enjoying a great dessert to top off a wonderful meal.

  3. Right on the beach for 11 years - you could never have gotten me to leave there. Your day looks right down my alley but you military folks sure are stingy with your beautiful beaches. I would have enlisted long ago if I'd known about this. :-))

  4. I loved being in the mountains this summer, but will always be a beach-side girl at heart. Having grown up and lived on eastern Long Island all my life until we left on this incredible journey, I will always feel at home by the ocean. And the good news is, in an RV, sometimes I can even have ocean front property :-).

  10. P&M

Mary and I just got back from Gulf SHores, AL. Same crowded beach and powder type white sands. We played in the Gulf for hours like two little kids.

Great shots, good on you both for getting some quiet beach time.

  13. The beach looks great and as much as we love our mountains a little sand and surf is never a bad thing.

  14. The Destin Rec Park is a great place to explore from. Swing by the Air Force Armament Museum just outside the Eglin Main Gate.
