It May Be St. Patrick's Day, But It's a Red Letter Day For Me

Today marks a special anniversary for me.  Yes, it is St. Patrick's Day, but for me it has another meaning.

Thirty years ago today, raised my hand and enlisted in the United States Coast Guard.  I still can't believe that thirty years have gone by, it seems like only yesterday.  It's been quite a ride, I've been all over the country and also all around the world.  I never dreamed on that long ago day that I'd have had these experiences, I feel I've been lucky to have had the opportunity to serve this great country of ours.

So 1 September 2011 is my official retirement date.  I still have some time to make a few more contributions.

Today was spent in the company of my grandsons, Andrew and Owen, my daughter Heather, my SIL Brian and of course, Marti.  No big celebration, we're just enjoying the fun of Disney World.  The weather has been beautiful, the crowds large, but seeing the smiles on the boys faces, you can't ask for anything better.

Looks like I'll have to do more pictures in the blog when I can catch my breath.  It's great to have the Journey to stay in while we're here, it works out very well.

Lastly, Andrew says I scream like a girl riding the roller coasters... ;c)

  3. Congratulations Paul for serving those 30 years!!! I know at times when you are going through it, the minutes can move slowly. However when you are at the other end, you wonder where the time went. I bet if you could do it all over again, you would without much hesitation. Also, I think a huge thank you is due to Marti. It’s my guess that she has been with you for most or all of those 30 years. Enjoy your family time at Disney!

  12. Congratulations! Thank you for your service. I envy the good times you are having in Disney. We went for the first time a year ago at Christmas time and had a blast. Can't wait to go back. It's fun looking at all the decorated RVs.
