Had "The" Talk

Spent some time on the phone today with my boss.  His office is in Georgia, my office is in Virginia.  He's a really good guy, but I rarely see him.  Our communication consists mostly by e-mail and a rare phone call.  Today was a rare phone call.

I outlined my intent to retire and our intended dates.  Told him my request for retirement letter is all typed up and just waiting for me to fill in the date and hit "Print".

I think he was surprised.  He asked me what I was going to do and I told him, but I'm not sure he understood.  Full time RV living is hard for the average person to get their heads around.

He was nice about it and relieved that I told him I won't leave him in a lurch, I'll help train whomever they need to take over my job when I go.  So another step has been taken.

In the mean time we're refreshing some of the paint in some of the rooms in the house.  Next Monday night we meet with the realtor and see how little our house is worth (gulp!) and what we can expect when we put it up for sale.  So we're going take a long weekend and visit the grandsons down in South Carolina.

Going to keep this short, we're getting up at Oh-Dark-Thirty to get on the road, it's about a seven hour trip, not counting pit stops.

We'll be in touch.

  2. The longest trip starts with the first step and the talk with your boss is definitely the first step.
